About Dumont

Dumont is home to approximately 17,500 residents and is approximately twenty miles from New York City. Housing in Dumont is mostly single-family homes, though duplexes, condominiums and investment properties can be found throughout the borough. Commuting to and from New York City is easily done by train from neighboring River Edge, or by bus from many park and rides located in the area.

Dumont was among the first communities to establish itself as a borough in Bergen County. Dumont reaches back to the Dutch Settlers in the late 1600’s, who colonized much of Eastern Bergen County. During the First World War, Camp Merritt in neighboring Cresskill was the largest troop encampment in the United States.

Downtown Dumont features many businesses, including banks, sub shops, restaurants and coffee houses, with other business areas and stores scattered throughout the borough. Parks and community public space are numerous and well maintained.

What attracts many residents to Dumont are its medium density residential neighborhoods and pedestrian-friendly downtown. All of this charm is located less than one hour by car from mid-town Manhattan.
